The Remember Me Project is very moving. It is a collection of over a thousand photos taken of children displaced by the Holocaust (mostly Jewish children). These children survived the war, and the photos were taken in relocation facilities following the war. It seems to me that is easy to remember the unimaginable number of people (and children) who were brutally killed by the Nazis, and forget those who survived. Many are not famous, although they should be, and fade into the background of history.
Here is a little bit of info from their “about” section:
“By publicizing these 1,100 photographs, the Museum hopes to identify these children, piece together information about their wartime and postwar experiences, and facilitate renewed connections among these young survivors, their families, and other individuals who were involved in their care during and after the war.”
“Please share these powerful photographs with your family and friends. Doing so will increase the chances of identifying these children and help raise awareness about the experiences of the most vulnerable victims of war and genocide.”

Heartless Bastards of the Day: The Westboro Baptist Church announced yesterday on their blog that they plan on sending a contingent of crazies up to tornado-ravaged Harrisburg, Illinois, to picket the funerals of those who died.
According to tipster Rachel, the WBC’s band of bigots arrived in Marion last night, “and woke up this morning to slashed tires.” The photo above alleges to show the aftermath of said slashing.
Undeterred, the church members attempted to enter Harrisburg, only to be rebuffed by local biker gangs.
As justified as any and all anti-WBC actions might seem, it’s important to remember that they are First Amendment trolls who sustain themselves with money made from lawsuits brought against individuals who try to bar them from exercising their freedom of speech.
Slashing their tires or physically preventing them from “protesting” is playing right into their hands. As much as you might hate them, you’ll undoubtedly hate yourself even more if they end up using your money to fund their hate.
